About Tyler Farrar
Tyler Farrar is an experienced leader with 17 years in security and technology. He has successfully led diverse teams, up to 150 members in the U.S. Navy and 16 in private industry. Tyler has extensive experience implementing vital security controls and compliance in technology, defense, financial services, professional services, and military sectors.
Tyler currently serves as the CISO at Exabeam. In this role, he defines and directs the strategy and execution of Exabeam’s information security and compliance programs for 700+ employees and contractors with an annual budget of $2M. Tyler also leads efforts in supporting current and prospective customers’ move to the Exabeam cloud-native Security Operations Platform by helping them to address cloud security compliance barriers. He is responsible for all aspects of: policy and cyber risk management; cybersecurity awareness and operational support; critical asset protection; secure infrastructure and vulnerability management; legal preservation and e-discovery; insider threat; forensic operations; and a security operations center.
Prior to Exabeam, Tyler was responsible for the strategy and execution of the information security program at Maxar Technologies, which included security operations, infrastructure governance, cyber assurance, and U.S. government program protection functions across 5,000+ employees and contractors with an annual budget of $10M. As a former Naval Officer, he managed multiple projects and cyber operations for a multimillion-dollar U.S. Department of Defense program.
Tyler is the Founder, CEO, and Chair of the Board of California = Security, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing small businesses with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to protect their digital assets from cyber threats. Through education, training, and support, California = Security aims to empower small businesses to take proactive measures to secure their networks and data, and to safeguard against cyber attacks. This initiative reflects Tyler’s passion for ensuring a safer digital environment and his ongoing commitment to sharing his expertise for the greater good.
Tyler earned an MBA from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. He also holds a variety of technical and professional certifications, including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification.
